Old Lyme Conservation Commission Meeting of May 2, 2017
at Town Hall 7:30 p.m.

Membership -two alternates needed
Barrier Plantings- still to be determined as to exactly what is
to be done at what expense
Maureen Haseley-Jones was to report on the group known as SACK which is described as a political action club. She was also to propose a plan for the town of Old Lyme to become pesticide free.
Anu reported that her bee and pollinator display at the town library was well received and is being extended. Anu reported on some of the local beekeepers’ activities as well as her developing a link with an East Lyme group interested in promoting bee- safe environments. It was noted that dandelions and clover are honey bee favorites.
Maureen and Tom reported on their handout of Old Lyme Land Trust trail maps at the coffee break at the Congregational Church . A second trail map handout is planned for mid July. There was no response to Maureen’s inquiries about the Osprey Festival.
The May 21 st Tour De Lyme was discussed and commission members were encouraged to participate. Last year 80 Old Lyme residents participated in the Tour.
Old business- Lake bed blanket use was discussed and Tom was going to
follow up. The Congregational Church’s solar energy usage data was to be
researched. “Bees and Pollinators” is the topic submitted for the quarterly newsletter. George is going to write an article on well water testing for the August issue. He will also contact the Inland Wetlands Commission concerning the anti- phosphorous law and will prepare ConCom materials for the next Town Plan of Conservation and Development.
